The Case of the Missing Socks

It's an age old question...where do all the socks disappear when you do the laundry? You think you put them all in the wash but when you put the clean clothes away a sock or socks seem to be missing. I have a small collection of socks on top of Anna's dresser missing their pair. I always thought that maybe there's just one stuck in a shirt somewhere. And then I noticed that Anna just seemed low on socks. Where were all her socks?
And then yesterday Anna and I were relaxing on the sofa when she said "Mommy don't look at me". Of course I just pretended not to look and when I saw what she was doing I had to say, "Anna what are you doing?" I saw her taking off her socks and putting them under the sofa cushion! And when I looked under the cushion I burst out laughing.....because there underneath the cushion were a collection of socks!
Silly little stinker hiding all her socks!

The Apple Farm

We had a 4 day weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving so on Saturday we headed to the apple farm! Actually I intended for us to go to a pumpkin farm but we ended up at an apple farm...which worked out well since the poem Anna learned last week at school was about apples!

Our little fashionista ready to go pick some apples!
It was a beautiful day to be outside in the country
Matilda was excited to go on a wagon ride!
She also enjoyed walking around the orchard
Anna ran from tree to tree picking apples
And got a lift from Daddy to reach the really high ones. I'm not sure which she enjoyed more...picking the apples or eating the apples she picked!
Then it was off to the petting zoo where we got piggy kisses
Made friends with the sheep
I think Anna would have taken this one home!
She said this one's fur was really thick
And Anna insisted that next time we bring carrots to feed the horse!
And before the day was done a quick stop in the field of pumpkins!

When blueberries attack

One of the things I miss most about living in California is the abundance of fresh fruit year round. Anna and Matilda love fresh fruit....strawberries, raspberries, peaches...they like them all. And of course they also love blueberries. They'll eat them like candy. Since we can't get fresh blueberries right now I thought I would just get a bag of frozen blueberries. We've been buying frozen mangos and those are delicious so why not frozen blueberries? The frozen blueberries were a hit...sweet and yummy...but oh so messy. So very very messy. Alastair and I couldn't help but quote a famous line from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, "Violet you're turning violet!"

Get Up! Get on the Floor! Anna is FOUR!

The day Anna has been waiting for...her number 4 birthday!
All day she kept holding up 4 fingers....and within an hour of waking up she started planning her number 5 birthday!Anna has already decided she wants the same decorations for her number 5 birthday!
Ever since the first day of school Anna has been asking for Daddy to walk her to school. So as a special surprise Alastair took the day off to go canoeing - oops I mean took the day off to walk her to school! (Though he did enjoy a day on the river canoeing while she was at school!)
New Princess Sophia crown on ready to celebrate her number 4 birthday!
4 balloons on her chair to go with her requested princess cake complete with 4 princesses and 4 candles!

Happy 4th Birthday Anna!
