Fall Round Up

So it's been a super long time since we've posted anything...and if you've been wondering what we've been up to here's our fall round up of activities! From birthdays, to Halloween, to lost teeth....here are a few of the things keeping us busy!

Summer Recap 2015

As fast as it came summer has come and gone....Here is a recap of some of our few favourite things we did this summer!

Have fun in GRADE ONE!

Today was the first day of school...Anna is starting GRADE ONE!!! It was only a short 2 hour day and the kids stayed with last year's teacher...so tomorrow will be Anna's official first day in Grade One. And is she excited! Anna came home full of Grade One information....Her class is on the second floor! She gets her own desk! We need to bring her school supplies tomorrow! She gets her own desk! (this is the one she's most excited about!). 

We're jammin'

It's blackberry picking season! The blackberries are abundant and ripe for the picking - and I'm not talking about blackberry picking at any old local farm. Nope. Not here. Instead we pick wild blackberries...found growing wild everywhere! At the end of our street, on the local trails...Alastair often tells stories about how he grabs a few on his bike ride home from work! Now when we go for walks we bring a bucket with us so we can pick blackberries at the same time!

The World's Most Expensive Playground

Last weekend we drove out to Richmond to check out the Terra Nova Adventure Playground aka the million dollar playground. Yes you read that right - it cost the city of Richmond a million dollars to build this playground. And I have to admit - it's a really good playground. 

Happy camper

Last weekend we took our first camping trip as a family! From swimming in the lake to hiking to playing from morning till night...camping was a complete success!

 You never know what you might find on a nature walk...

Bite Me

You know how you don't know if your kid is allergic to something until they have an allergic reaction? Well it happened with Matilda....last month she woke up with a slight bump on her head. She's a toddler, she falls, didn't think much of it....until about 8 hours after when her bump began to swell. The bump was red like a bite but there was no bite mark but to be safe I took her to the clinic. The doctor said she seemed fine that the swelling would go down but if the swelling got worse to bring her back in. Below is a picture of Matilda at the clinic on the first day...

The next day we woke up and Matilda's eye had swelled even more! So off to the hospital we went....

 By the end of the third day the swelling was gone, all was good...we thought ok it's a one time thing....and then we went camping. On the last day of camping she woke with an obvious mosquito bite on her forehead. And as the day went on the more and more it swelled up! We had confirmation that Matilda and bites are like oil and water - they just don't mix!

Last day of school!

Today is Anna's last day of Kindergarten! Where has the year gone?! And what a great year it has been...we were so lucky to have the fabulous Mrs. Blair as her teacher (I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed that Mrs. Blair will still be teaching when Matilda enters Kindergarten in 2 years!). So much has changed in the past year - Anna is taller,  a boy has a crush on her and she has two less teeth!

Matilda also had her last day of pre preschool on Wednesday. Matilda loves going to school! In the fall she'll start at an official preschool but I loved her teachers so much I actually wish she could stay 2 years old and stay with them!

Up, up and away!

Last weekend we went on the Sea to Sky Gondola. It's a new attraction that just opened last year. A ten minute gondola ride takes you to the top of the mountain where many adventures can be found - suspension bridge! viewing platforms! sweeping views of the Howe Sound! trails! playground for the kids!

Mind the Gap

Anna lost another tooth! Will the excitement of losing a tooth ever wear off? Will I ever get used to seeing a tooth hanging on by it's last thread? Don't think so since I gagged a bit as I wrote that sentence....

My note to the tooth fairy:

Dear Tooth Fairy,

Please help me remember to be prepared for when Anna loses her next tooth. Please help me remember where your special tooth fairy stationary and envelopes are. And please bring me some tooth fairy magic dust to help with the gagging.

Pirate Day!

The past few months Anna's class has been learning all about pirates! I already thought Anna's teacher was amazing but when I heard she was doing an entire unit on pirates - it's safe to say that I absolutely LOVE Anna's teacher! After who doesn't love a pirate? And I was very proud of Anna when her teacher Mrs. Blair told me that one day in class Anna raised her hand and shared this joke..."What's a pirate's favourite letter? Rrrrrrrrr!"
